I'm 56, so remember the original Royal Enfield Continental 250 GT of the 60's. They were already long in the tooth by the time I hit the streets in the early 70's. A desirable bike, if you ignored the weak 5 speed gearbox and the, then ultra modern, offerings from Japan - CB250 K1 and the ilk.
Now we have the 'Cafe Racer' re-invented, the 535 fuel injected Enfield. The MCN report reinforced my pre-conceived notions of nostalgia - right up to the last two paragraphs - when the reality check hit home!
All aspects of the the riding experience, beyond the standing and starring at it over a brew, make it inferior to the Inazuma 250 which is less money. I cant judge for myself as I've never ridden either of them. Apparently the 'duff duff duff' of the Enfields exhaust is a spot on sound track with the sports 'megaphone' fitted.
If we are going back to the 60's perhaps we should get Honda to create the 250 K1 twin engine and have us a REHON !
